Why do we know so little about the Teotihuacan?


Why do we know so little about the Teotihuacan? The Aztecs attributed names and significance to its buildings but had no contact with this earlier culture. Very little is known of the people who built Teotihuacan, and as a result, much of our knowledge of the site, its art, and Teotihuacan culture is derived from Aztec sources.


Was Teotihuacan built by Mayans?

No matter its principal builders, evidence shows that Teotihuacan hosted a patchwork of cultures including the Maya, Mixtec, and Zapotec. One theory says an erupting volcano forced a wave of immigrants into the Teotihuacan valley and that those refugees either built or bolstered the city.


Why Chichen Itza and not Teotihuacan?

Compared to the other two sites, Chichen Itza is by far the most impressive one, hence why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World. On the downside though, it is obviously also the most crowded and touristy one.
