Why do the church bells ring so much in Switzerland? Many Swiss churches and chapels ring their bells at night to indicate the time - usually every quarter of an hour. The nightly ringing of the bells not only occasionally surprises foreign visitors, but is suspected to cause sleep disturbances in the population.
