Why can't we build a bridge across the ocean?
Why can't we build a bridge across the ocean? A bridge that passed through the ocean would be underwater, and thus not very useful. A bridge that went over the Atlantic Ocean, between North America and Europe, or between South America and Africa, would be extremely expensive, as there are places where the ocean is thousands of meters deep.
How far underwater is the Eurotunnel?
How deep is the Channel Tunnel? At its deepest, the tunnel is 75 metres (246 feet) below the sea level. That's the same as 107 baguettes balancing on top of each other.
Could the Eurotunnel leak?
The tunnel does leak, but it is designed to. Seawater from the rocks above the tunnel drips through and is then pumped away.
