Why are Russian planes blue? In order to make the contrast between the brightness outside, and the darkness of the cockpit a bit less, the cockpits were given a bright colour to be less tiresome for the eyes. It's especially useful in cockpits with only a little lightfall from outside, in aircraft like the Tu-128P or MiG-23 and -25.
Why do Soviet planes have glass noses?
What's with the glass chin? You'll notice if you look closely that the IL-76, like a number of old Soviet aircraft, has glass in the lower-half of its nose. This was specially made for a navigator to be able to have an excellent view of the outside, especially when landing.
