Who owns Penrhyn quarry?


Who owns Penrhyn quarry? From 1963 until 2007 the quarry was owned and operated by Alfred McAlpine. In 2007 it was purchased by Kevin Lagan (an Irish businessman who is the owner and chairman of the Lagan Group) and renamed Welsh Slate Ltd.


Why is Welsh Slate so good?

As we've seen, Welsh slate is a lot older than Spanish slate ? around 100 million years on average, as a matter of fact. This means that Welsh slates have had much more time to form in the ground. So, they're a lot denser, sturdier and thicker (5.5mm-9mm vs 4-6mm, depending on grade) than their Spanish counterparts.


Who owns Dinorwic quarry?

Post-closure Following closure, the quarry's workshop at Gilfach Ddu was acquired by the then Caernarfonshire County Council, who now lease the building to the National Museum and Galleries of Wales. It now houses the National Slate Museum.
