What rich patron is behind the construction of a triumphal arch in Castel Nuovo?
What rich patron is behind the construction of a triumphal arch in Castel Nuovo? The Aragonese king never returned to his states in Spain and became an Italian prince, a determined protector of the new ideas of the Renaissance. To commemorate Alfonso's entry into Naples, his son Ferrante (Ferdinand I of Naples), ordered a triumphal arch to be built at the entrance gate of the Castelnuovo.
Is Castel Nuovo worth it?
It has been renovated inside and turned into a museum with not very exciting exhibitions. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a much better option to visit the Castel dell'Ovo, which is not faraway from Castel Nuovo. The entrance is free and the views are worth a visit.
