What does OMNY stand for? What does “OMNY” mean? OMNY, which stands for One Metro New York, is based on the concept of unifying fare payments and ticketing across multiple modes of transportation. We believe that transportation is an essential service that connects communities and brings the diversity and energy of New York together.


Is OMNY just Apple Pay?

With OMNY, you can use your own contactless credit, debit card, or reloadable prepaid or pre-tax benefit card, smart device, wearable or an OMNY card to pay the fare. Just choose your preferred payment method, tap at an OMNY reader, and go! Where can I use OMNY?


Do you save money using OMNY?

OMNY only offers the “pay-per-ride” option so you will pay full price every time you tap to pay. Unlimited passes and other discount prices will be added to the system sometime between late 2022 to 2023.


How many times can you use OMNY?

An OMNY card works the same as a contactless credit or debit card — all you have to do is tap and go. You can also use an OMNY card to take advantage of our fare capping program. Pay for 12 rides using the same card in a seven-day period and additional rides within the week are free.


How many free trips do you get with OMNY?

Does OMNY work with physical card?

Yes! Simply tap your own contactless credit or debit card, smart device, or OMNY card on the OMNY reader to pay the fare. These are the same OMNY readers as those on MTA subways and buses and work the same way.


How much does OMNY charge per ride?

OMNY is our contactless payment system. You don't have to sign up or download an app to use OMNY — simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, or wearable device to tap and go. You'll pay the same base fare — $2.90 — and still get free transfers.


How much does OMNY card cost?

Purchase and use of this OMNY card constitutes your acceptance of the OMNY Terms of Service and the OMNY Privacy Policy at omny.info/terms-of-service and omny.info/privacy-policy. This OMNY card costs $5 to purchase and must be loaded with a minimum of $1 or a fare product at the time of purchase.


What is a fare cap?

Fare capping allows all riders to pay as they ride instead of having to pay the total cost up front. Each time a rider pays $2, they can ride as many times as they want within a two-hour window. Fare capping can work in two ways — by the day or by the month.


Can you get unlimited rides with OMNY?

Customers will automatically receive free, unlimited rides for the rest of the week once they have paid $34 (or $17 for registered Reduced-Fare customers) in fares — the same as taking 12 trips. Group trips, express bus taps, and transfers do not count toward the weekly cap.


How do I refill my OMNY card?

You can load a minimum of $1.00 at participating OMNY retailers (visit omny.info/retail to find a store near you), or by calling OMNY customer service at 877-789-6669. You can also reload your OMNY card online at omny.info ($5.80 minimum for online reloads).


Is OMNY the same as MetroCard?

OMNY can currently be used to pay fares at all New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway stations, on all MTA buses, and on the Roosevelt Island Tram; when completely rolled out, it will also replace the MetroCard on Bee-Line buses, NICE buses, and AirTrain JFK.


Why did the MTA charge me $1?

Effective March 3, 2013, a $1.00 fee is charged for each new MetroCard purchased at an MTA New York City Transit MetroCard Vending Machine, station booth, or commuter rail station.


Is MetroCard cheaper than OMNY?

Since MetroCards are still available until the end of 2024, so until then, it may not be worth buying an OMNY card, which costs $4 more than a MetroCard. On the other hand, if you use a pay-per-ride MetroCard, you do not get to take advantage of the OMNY fare cap mentioned above.


Does OMNY have monthly?

Pay for multiple people: Up to four riders can use the same payment method. Tap OMNY or swipe a pay-per-ride MetroCard as each person enters. Tap a contactless card or a digital wallet at OMNY readers to pay the fare.


Can I just tap my credit card on OMNY?

OMNY readers are point-of-sale terminals, allowing you to pay your fare and enter the system – all in a split second. Just like you swipe or dip your MetroCard at MetroCard readers, you can tap your contactless card, your smart device, or an OMNY card at OMNY readers.


What is ride limit exceeded on OMNY?
