Is the Freedom Pass being phased out? Having carefully considered an equality impact assessment, and stakeholder feedback, I confirmed on Wednesday 18 January 2023 that the temporary travel time restrictions on 60+ Oyster and Older Person's Freedom Passes would become permanent. No changes will apply to holders of the Disabled Persons Freedom Pass.

What is an older persons Freedom Pass?
The Older Person's Freedom pass allows its holders to travel for free across the TfL Network, with some time restrictions on certain modes of transport – please check with TfL prior to your journey. The eligibility criteria is based on age, which rises in line with the Women's state pension age.

As long as morning peak restrictions are observed the 60+ Oyster is a free travelcard within all of zones 1-6 (excluding Heathrow Express and Southeastern High Speed between St Pancras and Stratford). It can be used on the Elizabeth line to/from Heathrow.

Can I use my OAP bus pass anywhere in the UK?
Your bus pass is valid for use on all registered Bus services within England, so if you are visiting other places you should be able to use your pass. It is not valid in Wales* or Scotland.
