Is the Denver and Rio Grande railroad still operating? The Rio Grande operated as a separate division of the Southern Pacific until 1992. Today, most former D&RGW main lines are owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad while several branch lines are now operated as heritage railways by various companies.


Is the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad still operating?

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad has closed its doors (and tracks) for the time being. Hopefully a new owner in the future will be able to get it up and running for visitors again in the future.
