Is sandal suitable for hiking?

Is sandal suitable for hiking? It can be, depending on trail conditions and the sandals. If you have to ask, then it's probably fine on the sort of trails you're likely to hike, as long as you're not in a particularly remote area. In general, my concerns about sandals would be: (1) lack of ankle support; (2) lack of foot protection; and (3) grip.

What type of footwear is best for hiking?

Hiking shoes: Low-cut models with flexible midsoles are excellent for day hiking. Some ultralight backpackers may even choose trail-running shoes for long-distance journeys.
