Is it safe to drive up to Pikes Peak in winter? It's Open All the Time. The Pike's Peak Highway is open year-round, with the keywords weather permitting. They do keep the road plowed during the winter, but you definitely want to check weather and road conditions before you go, especially if you aren't going during the summer.
Who should not go to Pikes Peak?
CAUTION: If you have a history of severe cardiac or respiratory problems, it is not recommended that you make the ascent to the summit. It is NOT recommended that infants under the age of 6 months make the ascent to the summit. The thinner air at the summit makes it difficult to breathe.
