Is Disney charging for MagicBands? For many years, solid colored MagicBands were free to Walt Disney World on-property hotel guests for every trip. But things changed effective January 1, 2021. All guests who wish to use a MagicBand must now purchase a new one or reuse one from a prior trip.

However, even if the long-range battery is no longer working, your MagicBand should still work for any Mickey to Mickey touchpoints, such as entrance tapstyles, Lightning Lane entrances, unlocking the door to your Disney Resort Hotel room, or point of sale terminals when charging purchases to your hotel room folio.

Disney cited the MagicMobile service as to why they will no longer be offering the complimentary MagicBands. MagicMobile was introduced in March of 2021 as an easier, more contactless way to enter into the parks using your phone.
