Do they check your Railcard on trains?
Yes. You must show your valid Railcard when you buy your ticket. You also need to have your Railcard with you on each journey and present it to staff when your ticket is checked aboard the train.
Is the Trainline cheaper than national rail?
Is Trainline more expensive than National Rail? The trainline is a reseller/agent so although the fares are usually the same, you may other charges such as booking fees/credit card fees and delivery fees and may miss any special promotional fares. There is no point in booking through them.
Can I link my Railcard to my contactless card?
You cannot. As of November 2022, contactless (bank cards or NFC devices) support only extends to a pay as you go model for a single adult fare with daily and weekly cap. For railcard discounts, student/young persons discounts, travelcards, season tickets, etc., a registered Oyster card is required.
