For our own website and apps, we usually use Google Maps, which means that during a street address search on what3words, Google will point you to where it lies on its map.
How much does it cost to use what3words?
what3words is free for anyone to use via our app and online map. We make money by charging some businesses that benefit commercially from using our products.
What is the difference between what3words and Google Maps?
What3words uses a satellite map for users to make it easy to use and understand. It is not a Google Maps rival as it will not help you with navigation to any particular address.
Does what three words track your location?
Can what3words be used for tracking location? No, there are no tracking capabilities in the app. The only way you can see someone else's location is if they share it with you. It's easy to share your what3words address via our app or online map, you can find the steps here.
What are the negatives of what3words?
You're not allowed to know what word lists W3W use. They take a paternalistic attitude to creating their lists - they know best. You cannot propose changes. Anecdotally, their non-English word lists are confusing even for native speakers.
