How do I apply a Railcard discount?
  1. Select where you're travelling from and to and the date and time you'd like to travel.
  2. Add your passengers and their relevant Railcards.
  3. Select 'Get times & tickets'. If you're eligible for a discount, it will automatically be applied to your search results.


Can I buy a Senior Railcard online and use it straight away?

If you have purchased a digital Railcard, it will be available to use straight away. A download code will be sent to your registered email address, along with instructions on how to download your Railcard. You cannot travel on discounted tickets until you have received your Railcard.


Can I buy a Senior Railcard at any station?

Yes. You can buy a 1-year Senior Railcard over the counter at all staffed stations ticket offices. You will be required to provide your passport or UK driving licence or birth certificate or EEA National Identity Card as proof of your date of birth.


How quickly can I get a railcard?

If you paid for 'Special Delivery' and placed your order before 15:45pm, your Railcard will be delivered within two days (Monday to Thursday) or three days (Friday to Sunday). If you are applying as a mature student please allow an additional 5 working days for your application to be reviewed and approved.


What is the Senior Railcard offer?

The Senior Railcard is a Railcard specifically for senior citizens. It gives people aged 60 and over 1/3 off train fares throughout Great Britain.


What documents do I need for Railcard?

You will need to provide a valid passport or UK driving licence or EEA National Identity Card number to prove your date of birth and a digital passport-style photo. In most cases, your digital 26-30 Railcard will be available to use straight away.


How to use Railcard to buy train ticket?

Using your Railcard You can get your Railcard in a digital format to be stored in the National Rail Railcard app on your phone or tablet, or as a physical card. You can use your Railcard to buy tickets online, at a ticket office, from a ticket machine, and over the phone.

You can get an older person's bus pass when you reach State Pension age, which is currently 66 for both women and men. If you're 60 or over and live in London, then you can get free travel on buses, trains and other modes of transport in and around London with a 60+ London Oyster photocard.

Your bus pass is valid for use on all registered Bus services within England, so if you are visiting other places you should be able to use your pass. It is not valid in Wales* or Scotland.

Does Trainline automatically apply Railcard?

We'll automatically apply your Railcard savings and show you the discounted price. Book your train tickets as a digital ticket, or to be collected at the station. Bring the device your digital Railcard and train tickets are stored on to show to a ticket inspector if asked.


Can I apply Railcard after booking?

Follow. Unfortunately not. You should always check that the discount you expected has been applied before completing your ticket purchase. If you want to apply the discount once the ticket has been bought you will have to cancel your ticket and start again.


Do they check for railcards on trains?

Yes. You must show your valid Railcard when you buy your ticket. You also need to have your Railcard with you on each journey and present it to staff when your ticket is checked aboard the train.


What happens if you buy a train ticket without a Railcard?

If you forget your Railcard you will either be required to buy a new ticket or you may on certain services be liable for a Penalty Fare.


Can I use my Senior Railcard on the London Underground?

Senior Railcard holders can also register their Railcard discount onto an Oyster card to get 1/3 off Oyster pay as you go single fares and daily caps on National Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services.
