How do I use my Railcard when booking?
- Select where you're travelling from and to and the date and time you'd like to travel.
- Add your passengers and their relevant Railcards.
- Select 'Get times & tickets'. If you're eligible for a discount, it will automatically be applied to your search results.
Can I use my Railcard instantly?
If you have purchased a digital 16-25 Railcard, in most cases it will be available to use straight away. A download code will be sent to your registered email address, along with instructions on how to download your Railcard. Mature students will have to wait a little longer as these applications are checked manually.
Can I use Railcard anytime?
You can buy Network Railcard discounted tickets for travel any time on weekends and public holidays or from 10:00am Monday to Friday. You may be able to start your journey a little earlier than 10:00am, see the time restriction easements section for details or check at your local station.
Do you need a Railcard when booking?
You can book your train tickets online or in person, but in order to qualify for a reduced rate ticket you must be able to present your Railcard during your journey. Failing to do this will invalidate your train ticket.

Is it better to get a digital or physical Railcard?
Digital Railcards are stored within the Railcard app on your smart phone or tablet, meaning there's no need to carry the physical card around with you. They can be stored on up to two devices and used quicker than plastic Railcards as they do not need to be sent in the post.

Where is my Railcard download code?
The download code allows you to add a purchased Railcard to the Railcard app. The download code is found within the email confirmation you would have received after we have approved your Railcard application.
