Has the Bahamas ever had a war? The outbreak of war was announced by the Governor George Haddon-Smith on 6 August 1914. Basic defensive arrangements were put in place mainly to protect against an attack by an enemy cruiser (CO 564/4). The war had a limited immediate impact on the islands but the population felt a strong sense of duty.
