Does Samaria still exist today? Samaria, also called Sebaste, modern Sabas?iyah, ancient town in central Palestine. It is located on a hill northwest of Nablus in the West Bank territory under Israeli administration since 1967.

Around 110 BCE, the decline of Hellenistic Samaria was complete, when the Jewish Hasmonean ruler John Hyrcanus destroyed the cities of Samaria and Shechem, as well as the city and temple on Mount Gerizim. Only a few stone remnants of the Samaritan temple exist today.
