Does a double skin wall need pillars? Double skin walls, as you may have guessed, are twice as thick as they use two layers of brick. The construction of a single skin brick wall will cost less, but structurally it will be weaker. To add stability to the new brick wall, piers (brick columns) should be built into the structure.
