Do I need to book tickets for Vesuvius? Entry is staggered, group of 50 people every 10 minutes, so booking is compulsory. You can access the Crater by stamping your ticket at the automatic gates you can find at Piazzale di Quota 1000. You need to stamp your ticket when entering and exiting.


Do you have to pay to see ruins of Pompeii?

Yes, Pompeii does have an entrance fee. Their tickets are valid for one day and it includes an entrance to Villa Regina.


Can you go Vesuvius without ticket?

It is not free to walk up Mount Vesuvius. You must buy your tickets online and select a timeslot to walk up the volcano. You can start your journey walking Vesuvius either half an hour before or half an hour after your selected timeslot.

Vesuvius can actually get quite cold the higher you get. So also check the weather and be prepared for both boiling heat and feeling cold in one day and take a jumper if there's any risk of cloud cover. If it's raining, they also often close the crater so check ahead there too.
