Do crypts still exist?

Do crypts still exist? While underground crypts were used extensively in the Middle Ages, aboveground crypts are much more popular in the U.S. today. Today's crypts are inside mausoleums, which can be quite intricate in their design and decorations.

Can you visit a crypt?

Like the Capuchin Crypt in Rome, many such places were constructed by religious orders in reverence of those passed. Others, like the famous Catacombs in Paris, were built strictly out of necessity. Regardless of the intention behind them, these houses of the dead still exist today and many are open to visitors.
