Did East Berlin have a subway?

Did East Berlin have a subway? The East Berlin U-Bahn lines from West Berlin were severed, except for two West Berlin lines that ran through East Berlin (U6 and U8). These were allowed to pass through East Berlin without stopping at any of the stations, which were closed.

Why are there only trams in East Berlin?

There were already 93 tram lines by 1929, in both East and West Berlin. After the Second World War, the West Berlin administration decided that trams are outdated and replaced them with subway lines and busses. East Berlin kept them, and they still exist to this date.
