Can you go see an active volcano?

Can you go see an active volcano? One of the most popular destinations for viewing lava is Hawaii, particularly on the Big Island, where the Kilauea volcano has been erupting on and off for decades. Visitors can view the lava flow from a distance at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, or take guided hikes to see the lava up close.

Can you climb inside a volcano?

But you know what you can do? Hike... into a volcano. Yep, there are actually a number of active ones around the world where you can pretty much grab a bag of spongy sugar and stroll right in to make some Earth-steamed s'mores (or at the least, stroll right up the top).

How close to lava can you get?

The answer… really really close. If the lava is pooling or advancing slowly, you can stand right next to it to get a shot. You can not stand there long…you may have to get your shot and quickly retreat…but you can get very close.

What not to do in a volcano?

IF YOU ARE UNDER A VOLCANO WARNING:
  1. Limit your time outdoors and use a dust mask or cloth mask as a last resort if you must be outside.
  2. Avoid areas downwind and river valleys downstream of the volcano.
  3. Take temporary shelter from volcanic ash in the location where you are.
