Can I use a MagicBand from 2 years ago? REUSE THEM If you've customized one of your bands or grown partial to a special edition band you purchased, you can reuse a band from a previous trip. Generally, the battery life of MagicBands is between 2-5 years, though the MagicBand+ may last longer because they are rechargeable.

It is perfectly acceptable to reuse an old MagicBand on your next trip. The official word from Walt Disney World is that the battery life of a band is expected to be about 2 years. However, I personally have older ones that are still going strong! So, bring your MagicBands and try it!

You can use your phone. Create a Magic Mobile pass within the My Disney Experience app. As long as you're using your phone to only scan in YOURSELF (meaning not you AND the other members of your party), then it should be fine. It might be slower than using a MagicBand, but it still works.
Will a 5 year old MagicBand still work?
Just make sure they're active. One thing thats a slight bummer is cannot use them to buy points at resort arcades but thats life. They will work for purchases and tapping into rides. But they won't link the ride photos that don't have a touch point.

Under all of your MagicBands you are going to see the option to Activate/Deactivate depending on the status and the option to Report Lost. If your MagicBand is currently deactivated, you'll just select the Activate button and it will be good to go.
