Can I book an international flight while waiting for my passport? You may book a flight before having your passport in hand. Please just make sure that you make your booking the same name/spelling as it will be on your passport. *For security reasons, you will be refused to board your flight if the ticket and the passport name/spelling are not the same.
How can I check my passport status?
You can call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY) to check on your status. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern Time, excluding federal holidays. You can use the automated system to check your passport information 24 hours a day.
Can I travel with a copy of my passport?
You'll need your passport to clear airport security and immigration, sure. But in instances internationally where you're asked to present identification, specifically note whether or not the actual passport is required—in most cases, an international driver's license or copy of your passport will suffice.
Can I travel while waiting for my passport renewal?
Answer: No, you cannot travel internationally without a valid passport. Photocopies of passports are not acceptable. If you need your passport to travel internationally and do not have time to wait for routine processing, then you can apply for expedited passport renewal. By mail, this process takes 2-3 weeks.
