Can active military fly free? Service members and their families can use Space-A flights – formally known as Military Airlift Command or MAC flights – to travel around the country and world at a reduced cost or for free.


Can I use my military dependent ID at the airport?

Yes! TSA PreCheck is free for US military with a CAC and DOD ID. Enter the DOD ID number from the back of your CAC into the “Known Traveler Number” when you purchase your ticket and you can go through TSA PreCheck. It's much faster and convienent.


Do soldiers have to pay for flights home?

If they are stationed overseas or deployed overseas, and have orders to return to the U.S., the military covers their transportation at no cost to the soldier.


What benefits do military get when flying?

Military travel perks may include:

Can military fly standby for free?

Passengers with AirPass membership, First and Business Class MileSAAver award tickets and AAnytime award tickets may also fly standby. Complimentary standby is also available for active U.S. military personnel traveling on orders or personal travel and active U.S. military dependents traveling on orders.


Does military get to skip TSA?

Yes. Members of the U.S. Armed Forces and DoD Federal civilians can use TSA PreCheck® benefits for both official and personal travel. Be sure to update all travel reservations with your DoD ID number listed as the Known Traveler Number (KTN) to enjoy benefits.
