Are MagicBands no longer free? As of December 31, 2020, Magicbands will no longer be provided on a complimentary basis for anyone with check-in reservations. This news was a bit disappointing but not all is lost. You can still use MagicBands in the park and you can still purchase your MagicBand online or at select retail locations.

It is perfectly acceptable to reuse an old MagicBand on your next trip. The official word from Walt Disney World is that the battery life of a band is expected to be about 2 years. However, I personally have older ones that are still going strong! So, bring your MagicBands and try it!

MagicBand+, introduced in 2022, has a rechargeable battery and comes with a charging cable. Battery life is estimated to last 1 to 3 days between charges. It is recommended that you charge your band each night during your vacation.

What happens when MagicBand battery dies?

However, even if the long-range battery is no longer working, your MagicBand should still work for any Mickey to Mickey touchpoints, such as entrance tapstyles, Lightning Lane entrances, unlocking the door to your Disney Resort Hotel room, or point of sale terminals when charging purchases to your hotel room folio.
