Britney Spears Opens Up About Security Incident and Unequal Treatment in the U.S.
In an Instagram post, pop icon Britney Spears addresses the recent Victor Wembanyama security incident, explaining that her passionate and profanity-laden reaction stemmed from her belief that she has never been treated as an equal person in America.
Spears took to social media shortly after TMZ shared cellphone footage of the incident, where she can be heard shouting, "That's America for you. F--- you all!" She clarifies in her caption that she does not share this to portray herself as a victim but rather to express her genuine reaction. Spears reflects on the numerous unauthorized documentaries about her life and the feeling of helplessness she has experienced in various situations, including her time in Las Vegas. She describes her outburst as a cry for change on multiple levels.
Asserting her viewpoint, the 41-year-old singer emphasizes that she has never felt equal treatment throughout her life, even when traveling with popular music group *NSYNC, who encountered fervent fans everywhere they went. She contrasts her experience with the fact that she has never witnessed a security guard physically assaulting another person.
Spears further explains that while her reaction involved cursing and blaming America, she believes it was a better alternative to physical retaliation. She emphasizes that her words were intended as a response and that she holds no ill will towards Wembanyama, expressing her continued admiration for the basketball star.
Previously, it was reported that Spears had pressed charges against the security guard involved, alleging assault. However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's investigation determined that Spears unintentionally hit herself in the face when her hand was pushed away by the NBA star. No arrests have been made, and no citations have been issued.
